A young woman in a wheelchair and her boyfriend are experiencing the twilight of their relationship in the world’s most romantic city, Venice. A story of love and resilience set in a city that is both enchanting and challenging, it becomes a metaphor for a journey toward claiming spaces, dreams, and rights, reminding us how architectural barriers mirror social and cultural ones.
We told this story of love and disability in the short film Mille Ponti [Thousand Bridges] (2024), directed by Nicolò Novek, which was presented during the 81st Venice Film Festival and later at the Senate of the Republic on the initiative of Hon. Valentina Grippo.
We aimed to craft a profound narrative centered on disability and relationships within Venice, highlighting the unique identity of the urban setting and supporting a streamlined production through a visual format focused on authentic acting, a dedicated local crew, and a powerful story rooted in the local community.
